She is also known for being the sister of popular Bollywood actress and model Shilpa Shetty. Shamita made her acting debut in the Bollywood industry with the blockbuster Hindi movie Mohabbatein in the year 2000 along with Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Since then, she made her appearance in several popular Hindi movies like Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Saathiya, Zaher, Bewafaa, Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, and Fareb. Along with her career in the Hindi film industry, she also worked in some popular Tamil and Telugu movies like Raajjiyam and Pilisthe Palukutha. She also made her television debut with her appearance in the popular TV reality show Big Boss in season 3. After that, she also participated in the TV reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa in season 8 and then in the show Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi in season 9.
