Personal Life of Saif Ali Khan

Saif was born on 16 August 1970 in New Delhi to Mansoor Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore. His father was a cricketer and captain of the Indian national cricket team and his mother was a film actress. He has two younger sisters Soha Ali Khan who is an actor and Saba Ali Khan who is a fashion designer. Khan studied at The Lawrence School, Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh, and was later sent to Lockers Park School in Hertfordshire at the age of nine. He next enrolled at Winchester College and completed his graduation from there. Saif belongs to a royal family. His father was the nominal Nawab of Pataudi from 1952 to 1971. After the death of his father in 2011, a symbolic pagri ceremony was held in the village of Pataudi, Haryana to “crown” Khan as the “Tenth Nawab of Pataudi”.

Saif was inspired by his mother and wanted to become an actor. In 1993, Yash Raj’s directorial Parampara marked his debut in Bollywood. The movie failed to perform well at the box office. He fetched recognition with the films- “Yeh Dillagi” and “Main Khiladi Tu Anari.” Next, he played the lead role in the film “Being Cyrus,” which was a highly applauded performance. The 1999 film Hum Saath Saath Hai helmed by an ensemble cast was Saif’s biggest success of the decade. The 2001 movie “Dil Chahta Hai” proved to be a turning point in his life. He was conferred with a lot of accolades for his role in the movie and after this Saif starred in numerous critically and commercially successful films such as Hum-Tum, Omkara, Salaam Namaste, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Race series to name a few. Controversies About Saif Ali Khan

  • In 1994, he was surrounded by controversy when he, reportedly, beat Kanan Divecha an assistant editor of film magazine Star and Style. He did it because the magazine had printed an article about his Ex-wife Amrita Singh’s relationship with another actor.
  • In 1995, a magazine named Bombay Dost had critiqued “Main Khiladi Tu Anadi” as a gay film. In addition, when Ashok Row Kavi, gay rights activist, ridiculed Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore, it made him angry and he beat Ashok inside his house in Santacruz, Mumbai.
  • In 1998, he, along with co-stars Salman Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam Kothari, was accused under the Wildlife Act and the Indian Penal Code for hunting two blackbucks in Kankani, Rajasthan.
